What is Pétanque?
Pétanque is a recreational and competitive sport that originated in the south of France and has since become widespread all over the world. Pétanque is very popular because it appeals to everyone and remains varied and exciting for players of all skill levels. As an exciting competitive game, it requires concentration and practice. A good team strategy and tactics are often the key to success.
Two teams compete against each other, either with two players (Doublette) or three (Triplette). Another variation is the individual duel (Tête-à-tête). The game is played with hollow steel balls about the size of a fist. The main idea of the game is to get these balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball – the target, also called "cochonnet" or "piglet." A good throwing technique is needed to place the balls well.
For participating in a tournament, such as the EuroGames, we form teams and also train intensively. An external coach may also be involved in this process.
We are a group of enthusiastic players who meet weekly to play a few rounds of Pétanque.
If you’re now excited to throw a few balls, we look forward to your registration for a trial training session.
